A man from Williams Lake was shot dead by police in west central B.C. early Saturday morning.
RCMP say the incident happened around 12:30 a.m. PT as Mounties responded to a complaint in the area of Nimpo Lake, 370 kilometres northwest of Vancouver.Nimpo Lake, B.C.
Police say the nature of the complaint and specifics around the incident are subject to an ongoing investigation, so few details are being released.
"The Delta Police Department has agreed to take over the investigation, as per the RCMP's policy requiring an independent police agency investigate officer involved shootings, resulting in a death or serious injury," said RCMP Sgt. Rob Vermeulen.
Officers from the RCMP's major crime unit are securing the scene, while the B.C. Coroner's Service and victim services have been notified.
Delta police are expected to arrive at the site later Saturday, however, weather conditions have delayed their journey.
