B.C. man charged with prostituting 16-year-old girl online
A 22-year-old Victoria, B.C., man is facing several charges for allegedly forcing a 16-year-old girl into the sex trade.
Westshore RCMP say Stephen Charlie is facing six charges including procurement of a person for prostitution, living off the avails of prostitution, kidnapping and assault.
Cpl. Kathy Rochlitz says Charlie allegedly solicited the girl through the internet.
"These types of crime really target the vulnerable, or at-risk youth, especially when there's the lure of the money, drugs and attention," she said.
"And what ultimately happens is when these young and vulnerable people are brought into this type of situation, they are the one that end up as our victim."
Police say they began investigating in November of 2010 after getting information that the 16-year-old was being offered as a prostitute on several internet sites.
The name of the victim won't be released because of her age.
