A man and woman have died in an avalanche near Nelson, B.C., police say.
The avalanche occurred at about 10 a.m. PT Wednesday morning, hitting a small group heli-skiing south of Nelson.
The male skier died at the scene, while the female skier suffered serious injuries and was transported to a medical facility where she later died.
No identities have been released.
The pair were among a group of five people who were on a commercially guided heli-skiing trip in the Bonnington Mountain range near Blewett, B.C., RCMP Cpl. Dan Moskaluk said.
The guide and one of the skiers were able to dig themselves out and then helped dig out the others.
"There was one male skier located and they were unable to resuscitate this individual. There was another skier amongst a group between three to four skiers that was recovered unresponsive and was suffering from life-threatening injuries," said Moskaluk.
The Nelson Rural RCMP is continuing to investigate the incident along with the Coroners Service of British Columbia, Moskaluk said.
