Apartment fire breaks out in South Granville building

An apartment fire shut down a busy Vancouver intersection early Monday morning as crews battled the flames in the eight-storey Hycroft Towers in the city's upscale south Granville district.

An apartment fire shut down a busy Vancouver intersection early Monday morning as crews battled the flames in the eight-storey Hycroft Towers in the city's upscale south Granville district.

The fire broke out on the seventh floor of the 61-year-old building on Granville Street between 15th and 16th avenues.

Firefighters upgraded their response to a third alarm shortly after they arrived just before 3 a.m. PT, but believe most of the damage has been confined to a single condo unit that was vacant and under renovation.

There's no word yet what sparked the flames in the 158 suite building that features interior murals by Canadian artist Lionel Thomas.

No injuries have been reported and residents have been allow to return to their suites in the three-wing complex.
