Animals invade Vancouver for 4-H Festival at the PNE

The heart of the PNE has always been the animals, and the livestock exhibits are sometimes the only real contact some city-dwellers have with life on the farm

The 4-H Festival at the Pacific National Exhibition runs until Aug. 20. The fair's last day for 2013 is Sept. 2.

When some people describe Vancouver's Pacific National Exhibition, they talk of deep fried treats, everything from pickles to cheesecake, and the rides — of which there are over 50 this year.

But those in charge of the annual fair say the heart of the PNE has always been the animals, and the livestock exhibits are sometimes the only real contact some city-dwellers have with life on the farm.
