A Kelowna gymnastics coach has been charged with multiple criminal charges related to unlawfully recording images of children and women, and the making and possession of child pornography.
Angelo Despotas, a private trampoline instructor registered with Gymnastics BC, is charged with making recordings of children between the ages of eight and 17 as they used a toilet and making child pornography from the images of their exposed genital and anal regions.
He is also charged with using a GoPro camera to film up the skirts of women at a Kelowna-area Best Buy store.
All the charges are alleged to have taken place between March and May 2015.
Despotas has been suspended by Gymnastics B.C. and Gymnastics Canada, and is banned from coaching, pending the outcome of his trial, Gymnastics B.C. said in a statement.
"We are saddened and deeply distressed to hear of this situation," Gymnastics B.C. CEO, Brian Forrester said.
"The safety of children participating in our clubs is the primary concern of Gymnastics B.C. and its member clubs."
Despotas is scheduled to appear in court, March 3.
