Seals are a regular sight at the Oak Bay Marina on the southeastern tip of Vancouver Island, but a smaller and furrier water-loving mammal is beginning to cause some concern.
A cute and curious — but potentially dangerous — river otter has gotten wise to the fact that visitors and locals come down and feed fish to the harbour seals.
This otter is now regularly jumping up on the wharves, and getting up close and personal with the visitors.
Marina officials say people are forgetting the otter is a wild animal with sharp teeth and claws.
Due to the animal's obvious lack of fear and the potential for human injury as tourist season begins, the marina says it plans to relocate the furry creature.
