Abbotsford girl, 5, dies after being hit by car
Girl hit after running out into laneway on Monday
A five-year-old girl hit by a car in Abbotsford, B.C., earlier this week died in hospital from her injuries Wednesday, police say.
The girl was struck on the 31500 block of Blueridge Drive just before 6 p.m. PT when she ran into the laneway behind the houses.
She was airlifted to hospital with very serious injuries. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with police.
Const. Ian MacDonald with the Abbotsford Police Department says the girl's death has hit the community hard.
"This was a hugely horrific and terrifying incident to have occurred and at the end of the day, all of the parties involved were neighbours, so certainly there was a lot of hope there would be a recovery in hospital," said MacDonald.
"But unfortunately now, we as a community are now coming to terms with dealing with this tragedy."
No charges have been laid, and police have not released the names of anyone involved in the incident.
