Three people are dead and another is in hospital with serious injuries, but is expected to survive after their car went over an embankment near Lytton, B.C.

RCMP spokesperson Kris Clark says the four were first reported missing Wednesday when they failed to return from a trip to the Pasulko Lake area.

An initial search that day failed to find them.

Clark says a search party was formed Thursday which included Pemberton Search and Rescue, an RCMP helicopter from Kamloops and members of the community and family.

Thursday afternoon, the vehicle and the bodies of three of the occupants were located in their car which police say had gone over the embankment.

Police are not releasing further details.
