2 arrested in Richmond father-son kidnap attempt
Alleged kidnapping targeted but not gang-related, RCMP say
Two men have been arrested for allegedly trying to kidnap a father and his young son at gunpoint in Richmond, police say.
RCMP say a 911 caller reported seeing four suspicious males forcing the father and son into the back of a car in the 3,000 block of Corvette Way.
Officers responding to the call were able to stop the car a short distance from the crime scene.
Two men, ages 19 and 27, were arrested and charged with kidnapping and forcible confinement with a firearm. They are both known to police.
The search continues for the other two suspects.
The man and his son were both unharmed.
Police say they believe the kidnapping was targeted but not gang-related.
"These things just do not happen randomly, so there's not a risk for the community," said RCMP Sgt. Cam Kowalski.
"They obviously targeted the individual, they waited for him, he just happened to be coming out to his vehicle. And they basically grabbed him, took him at gunpoint in his own vehicle."
