Police in northern B.C. have arrested and charged a man believed to be connected with a shooting east of Terrace that left one man dead and one woman injured.

Travis Leslie Stephens, 29, has been charged with murder and attempted murder.

Stephens was known to the victims and the incident was drug related, police said.

RCMP say they were called to a home in the community of Thornhill around 1 p.m. PT Saturday where they found 27-year-old Eric Cardinal dead and a 29-year-old woman who was injured. Both had been shot, police said.

The woman, whose name has not been released, was taken to a Terrace hospital with a serious but non-life threatening gunshot wound.

All individuals involved are known to police.

“RCMP are still gathering information to determine what happened and are speaking with witnesses," said RCMP Const. Lesley Smith in a statement on Sunday.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Terrace RCMP or call Crime Stoppers if they wish to stay anonymous.

Stephens is expected to appear at Prince George Supreme Court on Wednesday.
