At least one person is dead and several more are reportedly injured after two vehicles crashed on the Lougheed Highway east of 240th Street in Maple Ridge.
Police said an SUV and a pickup truck collided head on at around 3:45 p.m. PT Monday.
The driver of the SUV was killed instantly, while the driver of the pickup truck was airlifted to Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster with non-life-threatening injuries.
RCMP closed the highway in both directions.
Commuters were being advised to use Dewdney Trunk Road as an alternate route.
It is the third serious accident along this stretch of highway in recent weeks.
On Sunday, a man died and two people were sent to hospital with serious injuries after another crash on Lougheed Highway, just a few kilometres east of Monday's accident.
Last month, one person died and several more were injured when a Dodge Caravan crossed the centre line as it was heading westbound on Lougheed Highway, approaching the Pitt River Road intersection.
