A woman accused of lying to police about the death of her infant child made a brief court appearance in Dartmouth Tuesday morning.

In December, Halifax police were called to investigate reports of a newborn baby being thrown into a dumpster.

Theresa Lea, 19, was initially charged with offering an indignity to a dead body. The charge was later changed to public mischief after police said she was never actually pregnant.

Lea was released on bail with an order to seek a psychiatric assessment later that month.

Lea was scheduled to enter a plea Tuesday on the mischief charge. The case has been held over until early February.
