The Langley RCMP say they could be close to arresting a suspect in last week's murder of a teenaged girl.

Fifteen-year-old Tracy Basham was found dead by her older brother in their home last Thursday.

A 17-year-old male was arrested a short time later. He was later released without charges. Police say he remains a person of interest.

"One should not read too much into the fact the person was released," says Cpl. Garry Begg of the Langley RCMP. "In other words, we are certainly within our authority to re-arrest him or any other person in the future."

Begg would not say why the youth isn't considered a flight risk, but does say police can't hold a suspect for more than 24 hours without charges.

Investigators are now waiting for results on DNA evidence gathered at the Basham home.
