Alliance Quebec staged another rally in Montreal Saturday. But Quebec's main English language lobby group says it will scale back its pressure tactics on Montreal department stores.
Alliance Quebec is trying to force stores such as Eaton's and The Bay to use bilingual signs. The group has threatened boycotts if the stores don't put up signs.
Bill Johnson, head of Alliance Quebec says Saturday's demonstration the last shot in the current campaign. Johnson says the group's next objective is to draw international public opinion to his cause, beginning in the United States.
Provincial law allows bilingual signs, as long as the French portion of the message predominates.
