Riding profile

(Elections Alberta)

This new riding in Edmonton's southwest corner was created during electoral boundary changes in 2010 from 31 per cent of Edmonton-Whitemud and 17 per cent of Edmonton McClung. It is bordered by Edmonton's city limits on the west and on the south. The riding then runs north along Calgary Trail, Anthony Henday Drive and the Blackmud and Whitemud creeks to Whitemud Drive - which is the northern boundary.

Political history

Edmonton-South West is a brand new riding which has one-third of Edmonton-Whitemud's old territory.

In 1993, Liberal Mike Percy defeated Tory candidate Dave Hancock by more than 3,000 votes in Edmonton-Whitemud.. But Hancock rebounded and won in 1997 and 2001.
