Hotmail to Outlook users around the world finally have access to their emails again after an outage that lasted more than half a day.

The interruption in Microsoft's web email services started late Tuesday afternoon when some users reported problems with accessing emails and viewing email messages.

Microsoft acknowledged the problems on its service status website in an update, later adding that fixing the problems "is taking longer" than expected.

SkyDrive, the company's file hosting service, also experienced problems with adding, editing and removing files.

Angry users quickly took to social media to voice their frustration.

The services were resumed late Wednesday morning.

The lengthy interruption is another setback for Microsoft, which migrated to Outlook service from Hotmail in February, after losing its competitive edge to the more user-friendly Gmail by rival Google.

Microsoft describes Outlook as "the first major improvement to cloud mail in eight years." It has also launched a massive marketing campaign across the U.S. to promote the transition.
