Sunwing Airlines has reached a tentative agreement with its pilots on a new three-year contract that ends the possibility of a disruptive service interruption during the upcoming busy travel season.

The Canadian Autoworkers union, which represents 150 Sunwing pilots, announced a three-year pact in a statement Friday. It is the first deal signed since the pilots joined CAW in January 2012.

"We negotiated through a number of very difficult issues at the bargaining table and were able to reach an agreement that we feel meets the needs of our membership," Capt. Dave Matkovich and president of CAW Local 7378 said in a statement.

The union will be taking the tentative agreement to its membership for a ratification vote in a series of meetings across the country during the last week of February, Matkovich said. Details of the three-year agreement will be released upon ratification.

Flight attendant talks ongoing

Another set of labour negotiations with the airline's 900 flight attendants has yet to be resolved. The flight attendents unionized with the Canadian Union of Public Employees in March 2012 but have yet to sign an inaugural deal with the airline.

If a deal isn't met in that dispute, there could be a labour disruption as early as March 23.

Sunwing Airlines flies to sun destinations out of Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and Quebec City.
