CRTC seeks public input for telecom firm code of conduct

Canada's telecom regulator is asking for the public's input in crafting a code of conduct for wireless cellphone companies. (iStock)
The CRTC is asking Canadians for help in developing a retail code for services involving cellphones and other mobile devices.
The federal regulatory body says Canadians have said their contracts are confusing and that the terms and conditions can vary greatly from one wireless company to another.
The CRTC says it wants to make sure that Canadians have the tools they need to make informed choices in a competitive marketplace.
The regulatory body also says asking Canadians to help develop the code will help them better understand their rights as consumers and the responsibilities of wireless companies.
The CRTC says it wants Canadians to say what terms and conditions should be addressed by the code, and how it should be enforced.
The CRTC says it will hold a public hearing on the matter next Jan. 28.
