The owners of the Deerhurst Resort near Huntsville, Ont., said Monday the facility is up for sale.

Just weeks ago, it played host to world leaders at the G8 summit.

The asking price was not disclosed. The ownership group said the time is ripe to attract investment in Canada's real estate sector and they believe the resort has international appeal.

The owners — a numbered Ontario company, Cornerstone Real Estate Advisers LLC, and MassMutual Financial Group — bought Deerhurst in the 1990s. They have since invested more than $60 million in the property in the Muskoka region, a longtime destination for vacationers from Ontario and abroad.

The 400-room resort complex, about 220 kilometres north of Toronto, opened in 1896 and now includes two 18-hole golf courses and its own airstrip.
