The tax deadline for self-employed individuals, their spouses and common-law partners is less than one week away.

The filing deadline is June 15 at midnight, the Canada Revenue Agency reminded people Friday .

"It's important for Canadians to file their returns in order to take advantage of the tax relief measures available to them," said Revenue Minister Keith Ashfield.

The personal income tax deadline was April 30.

Although the deadline for self-employed individuals falls at a later date, the CRA requires outstanding tax balances to be paid by April 30.

The CRA is encouraging consumers to use EFILE, NETFILE and TELEFILE services to speed up processing of returns.

The Canada Revenue Agency reports most taxpayers are now filing electronically rather than mailing paper forms.
