McCain Foods Ltd. has sold part of its juice business, resulting in the elimination of 25 jobs in Grand Falls, N.B.
The company announced on Friday the sale of its aseptic beverage business, which produces McCain's drinking boxes and junior juices.
The $13.9-million deal with juice-maker A. Lassonde Inc. will see production equipment from Toronto and New Brunswick transferred to Lassonde.
Lassonde is also acquiring a juice plant in Calgary, trademarks and licensed use of the McCain trademark for periods of up to three years.
The positions in Grand Falls will be eliminated after the sale is completed on Nov. 2. No terminations are expected in Calgary or Toronto.
The acquisition will enable Lassonde to consolidate its Canadian presence in juice production, said Jean Gattuso, chief executive officer of the company.
McCain will continue to produce Old South and McCain frozen juice concentrates and Cool Quenchers.
