Madoff moved to medical facility
The U.S. Bureau of Prisons says Bernard Madoff has been moved from a North Carolina federal prison to a nearby prison medical facility.
The bureau noted the change on its website Wednesday. A spokeswoman did not immediately return a phone message looking for clarification on his condition.
In August, officials denied published reports that he had been diagnosed with terminal cancer.
Since March, the 71-year-old Madoff has been serving 150 years in a federal prison for engineering a multibillion-dollar Ponzi scheme that defrauded thousands of investors.
He is being treated for unknown ailments at the Federal Medical Center, part of the Butner Federal Correctional Complex in Butner.
Butner is near the cities of Durham, Raleigh and Chapel Hill.
