The biggest news in my life this year is that I became a certified English and History Secondary School teacher.

As the mother of four wonderful teenagers my hope is to share my education and experience with the students I teach in order for them to become informed citizens in their community. Can you tell I also teach Civics?

Ms. Cameron

The biggest story for me was the blackout weekend. My boyfriend, Jason, and I had just arrived at a B&B in Gravenhurst from Toronto for 4 days of R&R.

We had arrived 10 minutes after the blackout began. We had no idea that this "local" blackout extended throughout Ontario and down the Eastern US seaboard until I was able to access a message from my sister on my cell, after 5 hours of trying.

We walked about with candles and gazed at the stars above Lake Joseph. It was marvellous! The next morning after seeing the start of the most beautiful sunrise, my boyfriend beckoned me to go swimming with him.

It was 6:30am and the water was calm and surprisingly very warm. I was wading in the water when Jason asked if I could turn around to see the "rock" that he wanted to skip. So I turned around and there he knelt on bended knee in the water with what seemed like a mini boulder in an outstretched hand.

Then he smiled and asked me if I would marry him. I walked over to him, kissed him and told him I would when he asked me properly and with a real rock.

Then he asked me why....so I told him that I loved him and wouldn't want to imagine my life without him. I didn't even have time to think that this line of questioning was very serious for 6:30 in the morning and coming from him.

Then out from the pocket in his swim trunks he pulled out a small box with an engagement ring in it and asked me with my real "rock". I still have the rock he originally proposed to me with and I have often thought of making something with it...hopefully I'll have it figured out by the time the next big blackout happens.
