Police drop three charges laid against Mike McCormack in connection with the Jeffrey Geller case after receiving new information on the case. The information is released March 1 after McCormack is cleared on the one remaining charge.
March 1, 2006
A police tribunal clears Mike McCormack of discreditable conduct after 40 minutes of deliberations. Staff Superintendent Mike Federico says he will release his reasons at a later date. During the hearing, close to 100 witnesses appear as character witnesses in his defence.
May 2006
Sgt. Jim Cassells blows whistle on cases of corruption covered up. Chief Bill Blair announces a "review" of the allegations.
May 31, 2006
Judge James Blacklock rules that six former drug officers should stand trial on charges they beat and robbed drug suspects and committed conspiracy, perjury, extortion and obstruction of justice.
November 2006
Trial date for the six former officers is set for January 2008. Meanwhile, another former anti -corruption investigator speaks out in support of Sgt. Cassells, saying his allegations were "quite correct."
Nov. 28, 2006
The Toronto Police Services Board passes a motion welcoming a public inquiry into the allegations, after the criminal trials are resolved. The motion says the Ontario Attorney General should call for an inquiry "if there are any significant issues still outstanding" at the end of the criminal proceedings.
