Pumpkin carving templates

Click on either the name of the carving or the picture to download a pdf file that you can use as a guide to carve your special your Halloween pumpkin.

Jack-o-Manga (pdf file)

Here's an easy one for the kiddies:

  1. Carve and empty pumpkin from the top.
  2. Print the template and tape it to the front of your pumpkin.
  3. Prick the outline with a toothpick. Keep the template to refer to later.
  4. Cut out the parts in black.
  5. Shave the parts in grey. You do this by using your carving tool to whittle the pumpkin's skin off and then shave the pumpkin flesh off in layers. The darker the grey, the deeper you should shave.
  6. Light and enjoy.

Knifed-o-lantern (pdf file)

Another easy one for the kiddies:

  1. Carve and empty the pumpkin from an upper side (not the top, as people usually do). Reserve the guts and seeds.
  2. Print the template and tape it to the front of your pumpkin.
  3. Prick the outline with a toothpick. Keep the template to refer to later.
  4. Cut out the parts in black.
  5. Shave the parts in grey. You do this by using your carving tool to whittle the pumpkin's skin off and then shave the pumpkin flesh off in layers. The darker the grey, the deeper you should shave.
  6. Fill the "wound" with the loose guts and seeds.
  7. Fashion an axe or knife out of cardboard and stick it in the "wound."
  8. Light and enjoy.

Hockey-o-lantern (pdf file)

  1. Carve and empty pumpkin from the top.
  2. Print the template and tape it to the front of your pumpkin.
  3. Prick the outline with a toothpick. Keep the template to refer to later.
  4. Cut out the parts in black.
  5. Shave the parts in grey. You do this by using your carving tool to whittle the pumpkin's skin off and then shave the pumpkin flesh off in layers. The darker the grey, the deeper you should shave.
  6. Top with a hockey helmet.
  7. Light and enjoy.

Punkin' pumpkin (pdf file)

  1. Carve and empty pumpkin from the top, reserving the guts and seeds.
  2. Print the template and tape it to the front of your pumpkin.
  3. Prick the outline with a toothpick. Keep the template to refer to later.
  4. Cut out the parts in black.
  5. Shave the parts in grey. You do this by using your carving tool to whittle the pumpkin's skin off and then shave the pumpkin flesh off in layers. The darker the grey, the deeper you should shave.
  6. Using toothpicks, stick the "spiked hair" onto the pumpkin's head. You might need to carve another small pumpkin to get enough spikes. You can also use grass, pumpkin stems, whatever you want.
  7. Light and enjoy.

Vomiting pumpkin (pdf file)

  1. Carve and empty pumpkin from the top, reserving the guts and seeds.
  2. Print the template and tape it to the front of your pumpkin.
  3. Prick the outline with a toothpick. Keep the template to refer to later.
  4. Cut out the parts in black.
  5. Shave the parts in grey. You do this by using your carving tool to whittle the pumpkin's skin off and then shave the pumpkin flesh off in layers. The darker the grey, the deeper you should shave.
  6. Fill the mouth with the loose guts and seeds.
  7. Light and enjoy.

Vampire pumpkin (pdf file)

  1. Carve and empty pumpkin from the top.
  2. Print the template and tape it to the front of your pumpkin.
  3. Prick the outline with a toothpick. Keep the template to refer to later.
  4. Cut out the parts in black.
  5. Shave the parts in grey. You do this by using your carving tool to whittle the pumpkin's skin off and then shave the pumpkin flesh off in layers. The darker the grey, the deeper you should shave.
  6. Light and enjoy.
