Tories put money in cutting health care wait times
March 19, 2007

The Conservatives used their second budget to promise more than $600 million to help reduce patient wait times.
About $500 million will be put into a trust for provinces and territories that make commitments to patient wait-time guarantees before the end of March.
Each province will get $10 million in base funding, while each territory will get $4 million.
Finance Minister Jim Flaherty also said $400 million will go to fund development of shareable electronic health records.
"The time has come to modernize our health care system," Flaherty said in his budget speech.
"Canada needs electronic health records. They will help our health providers to be more efficient, improve the quality of care provided and reduce the chance of medication errors," he said.
The budget also puts $300 million into a third-party trust for the provinces and territories for the launch of an immunization program to protect women and girls from cancer of the cervix.
