More than $5 billion US
Total amount donated for relief efforts in South Asia by countries around the world according to the United Nations. UN humanitarian chief Jan Egeland said the amount exceeded donations promised for all other humanitarian appeals by the UN in 2004 combined.

The G-7 countries, including Canada, have proposed an immediate suspension of debt repayments by the countries hit by the tsunami. The World Bank says the affected countries
owe $356 billion US, led by Indonesia’s $132 billion US foreign debt. Britain’s treasury chief estimates that a freeze in debt repayments would be worth a least $5.7 billion US a year.

Aid donated by Canada's federal government. This amount is up from the $80 million promised in early January.

Amount donated so far by Canadians to non-governmental organizations such as the Canadian Red Cross.
