George Stroumboulopoulos says the name of his late-night talk show is changing. (CBC) CBC plans to revamp and rename its late-night talk show The Hour as it enters its seventh season this September.
Beginning Sept. 20, the show will be called George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight, after host George Stroumboulopoulos, according to a release Tuesday from the public broadcaster.
"We're never going to change the core values of the show — in a sense the show is going to be the same," Stroumboulopoulos told CBC News.
"So it's a hard-hitting interview or a really interesting, hopefully introspective, deeply personal interview — a chance to hear people say things they wouldn't otherwise get the opportunity to say."
He said the execution of the show has to shift because of changing tastes in late-night television.
"On The Hour, we helped work with what Mike Bullard had done previously, helped build late-night television in Canada — to start that conversation that we could have late-night shows in Canada — but we think the next step is to … evolve it," he said.
Among the new features of the show are an interactive website and a YouTube channel to be launched Sept. 20. Stroumboulopoulos will still host and the show will still feature a news roundup and the red chair.
The Hour became a few minutes shorter when CBC reintroduced local late-night news last October.
Shows to debut this fall on the public broadcaster include curling comedy Men with Brooms and the new Debbie Travis show All for One.
Debbie Travis hosts All for One, which seeks out Canada's local heros. (CBC) All for One will see Travis visiting Canadian communities and recruiting a group of volunteers to take on an ambitious project with a very tight timeline. It debuts Sunday, Sept. 26.
Men with Brooms is a half-hour comedy starring Brendan Gall, William Vaughan and Joel Keller about a group of friends whose lives centre around the town curling rink. It begins Monday, Sept. 20.
Hit reality TV show Battle of the Blades, which asks hockey players to take to the ice as pairs figure skaters, returns for its second season Sept. 26.
Also returning are Being Erica (Sept. 22), Rick Mercer Report (Sept. 21), The Ron James Show (Sept. 24) and The Tudors (Sept. 22).

FILM REVIEW: Men in Black 3 by Eli Glasner May. 25, 2012 11:40 AM Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones are back in the action sequel Men in Black 3, a third instalment of a series now 15 years old. Though new addition Josh Brolin manages some amazing mimicry as a younger version of Jones, the story doesn't measure up to the weird and wonderful charms of the original, says film reviewer Eli Glasner.
