Comedian Martin Short will be the voice of The Cat in the Hat in a new animated series to debut this August on Canadian network Treehouse.

The Hamilton, Ont., comedian, has starred on SCTV and Saturday Night Live,and his alter egos include Jiminy Glick and Damages' Leonard Winstone.

The animated series The Cat in the Hat Knows A Lot About That is the first to be based on the Dr. Seuss character, according to Corus Entertainment, which owns Treehouse. It is based on beginner book collection The Cat in the Hat's Learning Library.

The series features Sally and Nick making natural science discoveries of all kinds, along with zany duo Thing One and Thing Two. The know-it-all Cat in the Hat is their guide to exploring the globe.

The show will air Saturdays on Corus and debut on Sept. 6 on PBS in the U.S.

It is produced by Toronto's Portfolio Entertainment Inc. and U.K.'s Collingwood O'Hare Productions, in association with Dr. Seuss Enterprises, Random House Children's Entertainment, Treehouse and PBS Kids in the U.S.
