Ricky Gervais will bring his biting humour back to the Golden Globes podium next year, organizers of the annual film and TV honours announced on Wednesday.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association and broadcaster NBC revealed the irreverent British writer, actor and comedian will once again tackle the hosting gig for the 2011 edition of the awards show. The live broadcast will take place Jan. 16, 2011.

"I can't believe they invited me back after awful things I said," Gervais said in a statement.

"Let's see how far I can go this time."

Though Gervais received mixed reviews from critics for his debut as host of the Golden Globes in January — with stars like Kiefer Sutherland, Mel Gibson and Paul McCartney as well as his own penis subject to his mocking — ratings for the annual broadcast increased.

After years of simply having a slate of celebrity presenters, he was also the first standalone Golden Globes emcee the Hollywood Foreign Press Association had named in more than a decade.

Gervais is best known for co-creating and starring in the hit British workplace comedy series The Office — which spawned a successful U.S. version — as well as the movie industry satire Extras.

He is also behind successful comedy podcasts, an animated TV series based on those podcasts, the Flanimals children's book series and has appeared in films such as Ghost Town, The Invention of Lying and Cemetery Junction.

The British comic is set to receive the Peter Ustinov Comedy Award at the Banff Television Festival in June.
