Saskatchewan's ailing film and TV industry received some welcome news on Monday — a new TV series is being shot in Regina.

Shooting begins in July on InSecurity, a 13-part "action comedy" about bumbling Canadian spies, producers said in Regina.

The series stars include relative newcomer Natalie Lisinska as a rookie agent; William deVry, from the soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful, as her boss; and well-known Quebec actor Remy Girard as a jaded veteran.

The show is scheduled to run on CBC Television next January. Although most of the production work will be done in Saskatchewan, the show is set in Ottawa and some additional shooting will be done in the nation's capital.

It's believed the show will create more than 100 jobs, said Virginia Thompson, the president of Verite Films and an executive producer of InSecurity.

"I would say probably 95 per cent of the crew will come from Saskatchewan," said Thompson, whose company was involved in the popular Saskatchewan-made sitcom Corner Gas.

It's a shot in the arm for an industry that filmmakers say has been battered by the international economic downturn. A financial incentive announced Monday was crucial in bringing the show to Saskatchewan, Thompson said.

SaskFilm's Series Incentive Initiative provides new TV series or pilots with a year's worth of free rent at the Canada-Saskatchewan Soundstage in Regina. Production companies can claim the credit of up to $140,000.
