(Al Grillo/Associated Press)Cable TV viewers will get a chance to tour Alaska with the state's former governor Sarah Palin, with U.S. network TLC set to air the series.

Discovery Communications, which owns TLC, announced Thursday it has acquired rights to Sarah Palin's Alaska, an eight-part TV series being produced by reality TV producer Mark Burnett.

There is no word yet on a premiere date.

The series will be presented as an exploration of the northern state's features, with the tour led by former Republican vice-presidential candidate Palin.

Earlier this month, news emerged that Palin and Burnett were meeting with network executives to pitch the series. According to Burnett, the look of the series was inspired by Discovery's award-winning Planet Earth program.

He described it as "being in and experiencing the great charm and beauty of Alaska with Sarah Palin."

The series will show her visiting commercial fishing boats, coal and gold mines and other industries for which the state is known.

While both Palin and her family would be on camera, the show will not focus on their family life, Burnett said.
