Canadian comedian Eugene Levy has signed up for a major role in a new comedy for CBS called Hitched.

Hitched focuses on twentysomething newlyweds who are adjusting to their new life together.

Levy will portray the groom's dad, a four-times divorced ladies man who always wears tracksuits.

Produced by Warner Bros. TV, it would mark Levy's first return to regular series TV since 2002's puppet comedy Greg the Bunny.

Known for his roles in the American Pie movies and Christopher Guest films such as Best in Show and A Mighty Wind, Levy was recently on the big screen in Taking Woodstock.

The 63-year-old performer got his start in the sketch comedy show SCTV and has more than 40 films under his belt.

He was recently honoured by ACTRA, the actor's union, with its annual lifetime achievement prize.
