It looks like the Gemini Awards are heading to Calgary.

The Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television, which runs the awards, is hosting a news conference Thursday to make the announcement.

The Geminis, which will take place at an unspecified date in the fall, celebrate the best in Canadian television.

The big winner at last year's show — held in Toronto — was the CBC miniseries The Englishman's Boy and the brooding series Durham County, which returns for a second season next month on The Movie Network and Movie Central.

Three years ago, organizers followed in the footsteps of Canada's Juno Awards by staging the annual Geminis gala in different places across Canada. Visiting new host cities each year was intended to "galvanize the industry" in the same way that moving the Junos helped liven the music awards ceremony, organizers said.

In 2006, the festivities took place in Vancouver — the first time the gala was held in a city other than Toronto — with Regina taking over as host city the following year.
