ABC has granted an early renewal to Grey's Anatomy, Dancing with the Stars and other of its TV-schedule stalwarts, but the fate of many newer shows — like the crime-solving dramedy Castle — are still up in the air.

The U.S. network revealed on Thursday a list of shows renewed for fall, including:

  • Dramas like Desperate Housewives, Lost, Brothers & Sisters and Private Practice.
  • Fashion magazine comedy Ugly Betty.
  • Reality programming such as The Bachelor, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Supernanny, Wife Swap and America's Funniest Home Videos.

The network left further schedule announcements until its official upfronts presentation on May 19.

Still awaiting news of their fate are shows like the Christina Applegate sitcom Samantha Who? and many of the network's newest additions, including quirky detective series Castle (which stars Canadians Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic), romantic dramedy Cupid and eccentric police procedural The Unusuals.

The network will air the series-ending episodes of several shows — Scrubs, Pushing Daisies, Eli Stone and Dirty Sexy Money — over the spring and summer. ABC also recently cancelled the series Life on Mars.
