Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin has confirmed she will appear on this weekend's broadcast of Saturday Night Live.

A John McCain campaign spokeswoman, Jill Hazelbaker, confirmed Palin's participation on Friday.

The host of the show will be Josh Brolin, who plays President George W. Bush in director Oliver Stone's new movie, W.

The combination sets up rich satirical promise for Palin, who has been famously parodied on SNL by comedienne Tina Fey.

It's a chance to demonstrate her sportsmanship and ability to deliver a one-liner, and head off some of the relentless jokes at her expense making the rounds on late-night TV.

In a radio interview Friday, Palin said her fate is in the hands of the show's writers. "I haven't seen a script, not at all. They haven't even hinted about what that script is going to say," she told radio talk-show host Neal Boortz.

"But you know, I just want to be there to show Americans that we will rise above the political shots that we take because we're in this serious business for serious challenges that are facing the good American people right now."

Both presidential candidates, Democrat Barack Obama and Republican John McCain, have appeared on the show.

SNL has built its ratings in the past four weeks with Fey's eerily accurate parody of Palin, using many of the candidate's own words from the vice-presidential debates and her interview with CBS news anchor Katie Couric.
