CBC Television has renewed the new cop thriller The Border and comedy Sophie for a second season, but high-profile MVP: The Secret Lives of Hockey Wives will not be back in 2008-9.
Two-year-old drama Intelligence and new comedy JPod are missing from a list of returning shows released Friday by CBC-TV executive director of network programming Kirstine Layfield.
Sofia Milos, left, stars as special agent Bianca LaGarda and James McGowan as Maj. Mike Kessler in The Border, which will be back for a second season.

JPod, the comedy series about dysfunctional computer game programmers based on the book by Douglas Coupland, has been in trouble since February, when CBC moved it from mid-week to Friday night, when viewers are difficult to attract.
Intelligence, the complex crime drama from Vancouver's Chris Haddock, has run two seasons, but now is not being renewed.
MVP, the steamy romp through the private lives of hockey players, was given a splashy launch this year. Originally scheduled for Friday, it was moved to Tuesday night in an effort to build viewers; however, it also will not be on the fall schedule.
CBC-TV viewership is at the highest level in six years in the 2007-8 season, Layfield said.
The season has significantly increased Canadian content with more drama and more comedy than past seasons.
One favourite is The Border, starring James McGowan as leader of a fictional agency that patrols the Canada-U.S. border.
The Tudors, a co-production with Ireland's Reveille Productions about the loves of Henry VIII, is beginning its second season with the marriage of Anne Boleyn and the King.
Other returning programs include family drama Heartland and comedies Little Mosque on the Prairie, Rick Mercer Report and This Hour Has 22 Minutes.
Reality shows Dragons Den, Triple Sensation, Test the Nation and Canada's Next Great Prime Minister have also been renewed.
