Canadian-born Jeopardy host Alex Trebek is undergoing tests in a Los Angeles hospital after having a minor heart attack Monday, a spokesman for the game show said Tuesday.

Trebek was expected to remain two days in Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for tests and observation, said Jeopardy spokesman Jeff Ritter.

"Thankfully, it was a minor heart attack," Ritter said.

Trebek, 67, has hosted the syndicated game show since 1984 and is expected to remain host when the game show joins the CBC fall lineup in September 2008.

"He is resting comfortably in a Los Angeles hospital, and he will be back in the studio for the next scheduled tapings in January," the Jeopardy website said in a posting Tuesday.

Born in Sudbury, Ont., Trebek graduated from Toronto's Malvern high school and studied philosophy at University of Ottawa. He was a CBC newscaster and host of Reach for the Top before succumbing to the lure of Hollywood.

He has won several daytime Emmy Awards for his work on Jeopardy.
