Remarks made by comedian Kathy Griffin after her Emmy win for the reality show  My Life on the D-List will be censored before they air on the E! channel.

The Catholic League has objected to her speech, which mocked other winners who thanked Jesus for their award.

"A lot of people come up here and thank Jesus for this award," Griffin said in her speech. "I want you to know that no one had less to do with this award than Jesus."

She went on to hold up her Emmy for best reality show and add: "This award is my god now!"

Griffin, who arrived at the show with comedian Tom Green, stars in the reality TV program as a celebrity trying to climb the Hollywood ladder.

Catholic League president Bill Donohue complained about the remarks on Monday, calling them a "vulgar, in-your-face brand of hate speech."

The lobby group called on the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences to "denounce Griffin's obscene and blasphemous comment."

Griffin's remarks will be "abbreviated" for a Saturday rebroadcast to be shown on E! Channel ahead of the main Emmys on Sunday.

"Kathy Griffin's offensive remarks will not be part of the E! telecast on Saturday night," the TV academy said in a statement Monday.

The academy and E! Channel have to cut the four-hour presentation of the creative arts Emmys in half.

The final edit of the broadcast is not yet complete, so it is not known what else might be taken out of the ceremony.

The TV academy also has to make a decision about the creative awards Emmy given to Saturday Night Live for its fake music video Dick in a Box.

Justin Timberlake and Saturday Night Live 's Andy Samberg performed the "video," which features them offering a part of the male anatomy to their girlfriends as a gift.
