Having already introduced the word "truthiness" to the pop culture lexicon, satirical TV pundit Stephen Colbert is now adding a new flavour of ice cream to grocery store freezers.

Vermont-based ice cream company Ben & Jerry's announced on Wednesday a new flavour in honour of the hit comedian: Stephen Colbert's Americone Dream.

A vanilla ice cream studded with caramel and fudge-covered waffle cone pieces, Americone Dream is being described as "the sweet taste of liberty in your mouth."

The company has a reputation for naming flavours after famous people, including rock ers Jerry Garcia and Phish.

"Dessert has a well-known Liberal agenda," Colbert, host of Comedy Central's The Colbert Report, joked in a statement.

"What I hope to do with this ice cream is bring some balance back to the freezer case."

Colbert will donate proceeds from the sale of his ice cream flavour to various charities.

A spinoff from hit news satire The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Colbert's tough-talking, ultra-patriotic American TV persona and his Colbert Report are based on right-wing pundits and current affairs shows such as Bill O'Reilly and his Fox News program O'Reilly Factor, the top-rated program in U.S. cable news.

Last month, Colbert won a bet against John Gray, the mayor of southern Ontario city Oshawa, over an Ontario Hockey League game. The Oshawa Generals lost to Michigan's Saginaw Spirit, which has counted Colbert as a fan ever since they named their mascot — Steagle Colbeagle the Eagle — after him.

As per the bet, Gray will declare his birthday, March 20, Stephen Colbert Day in Oshawa.
