Parsing fuzzy data from e-book giants

E-book retail giants Kobo and Amazon are touting "record sales for the holiday season" -- but provide little actual sales data in their fuzzy, labyrinthine releases. These pronouncements are basically half bragging and half bait -- kudos for those who've just joined a brand's userbase and a bit of peer pressure ("Don't get left behind!") for those who have yet to dive in.
