Ricky Gervais lets loose at the Golden Globes

Looking forward to his second stint as host of the Golden Globe Awards, the always-acerbic Ricky Gervais promised he'd be so naughty, the organizers wouldn't possibly invite him back. He might be right.

Dire straits, indeed: an abbreviated history of controversial pop

In one of the most left-field music stories in recent times, the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council has deemed the 1985 Dire Straits single Money for Nothing unacceptable for radio play. It's the song's use of the word "faggot" in the lyrics. We've devised a list of other historically contentious pop songs.

R.E.M. release slew of new tunes

The U.S. group has been rather quiet in past years, which has apparently given lead singer Michael Stipe time to cultivate a regal beard. The new album isn't due until March 8, but the band has already released several of the new tunes to the interwebs, including Oh My Heart, Discoverer and It Happened Today.

DJ Earworm mashes up the biggest pop tunes of 2010

This has become something of a ritual, hasn't it? I'm referring to DJ Earworm's mix of the biggest (in some cases, most obnoxious) pop songs of the year. The San Francisco-based producer (civilian identity: Jordan Roseman) has been mashing up the top 25 songs on the Billboard charts since 2007, and it's always an amusing way to wind down the year.
