An upcoming Broadway version of the Will Ferrell holiday film Elf will offer a Drowsy Chaperone reunion of sorts, with members of the Tony Award-winning show teaming up again for the new musical.

Canadian actor and writer Bob Martin, who co-wrote and starred in The Drowsy Chaperone, wrote the book for the forthcoming holiday comedy with fellow Tony-winner Tom Meehan (Annie, The Producers, Hairspray).

Elf will be directed and choreographed by Casey Nicholaw, who fulfilled the same roles for the hit Broadway production of Chaperone.

Actress Beth Leavel, who won a Tony Award for her portrayal of the drowsy chaperone of the title, has joined the Elf cast, along with stage veteran Mark Jacoby and actor George Wendt, best known for his long-running role as Norm on TV's Cheers.

Still yet to be cast are the central role of Buddy, played by Ferrell in Jon Favreau's 2003 movie, and his love interest, Jovie (portrayed on film by Zooey Deschanel).

Elf tells the story of an young man named Buddy raised at the North Pole believing he is one of Santa's elves. When it is revealed that he is actually a human who was adopted, Buddy travels to New York to find his biological parents.

Elf, featuring music by songwriting team Matthew Skylar and Chad Beguelin (The Wedding Singer), runs from Nov. 14 through Jan. 2 at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre.
