Heppner, who maintains a busy international performance schedule, will return to Toronto for a solo appearance with piano at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts on Sept. 11, the company announced Thursday.

Joining the B.C.-born Heppner will be pianist John Hess, one of the tenor's regular Canadian collaborators and co-artistic director of the Queen of Puddings Music Theatre in Toronto.

"I am pleased that we have found a date for this special recital that works both with the COC's and Ben's full performance schedules," COC general director Alexander Neef said in a statement.

"We are very happy that this special recital can take place ... and we all look forward to a highly personal concert from one of the world’s greatest artists."

The concert will be free for those who had purchased tickets to November's COC Diamond Anniversary concert, from which Heppner withdrew after catching a viral infection while performing in London. Ticketholders must contact the COC to redeem their seats.

The general public will get a chance at the show when unclaimed spots and other seats go on sale May 31.
