A revival of the musical Ragtime will open Nov. 15 at Broadway's Neil Simon Theatre, the show's producers announced Wednesday.

Adapted from E.L. Doctorow's epic novel of the early 20th-century United States and first seen on Broadway in 1998, the revival, directed by Marcia Milgrom Dodge, made its debut at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington on April 18 and ran for 34 performances in April and May.

The massive, multi-tiered set will have to be modified for the Neil Simon Theatre's stage. That and the higher costs of mounting a Broadway production will put the price tag at $8 million US, compared with the $4.4 million for the Kennedy Center show, co-producer Kevin McCollum said.

The musical features a cast of nearly 40 performers and an orchestra of 28 musicians.

It will arrive with a good part of its Kennedy Center cast intact, including principals Christiane Noll and Bobby Steggert. But no names in the current revival production are as high-profile as some of the stars in the original, which included Brian Stokes Mitchell and Audra McDonald.

Some smaller roles are being recast.

Ragtime will begin preview performances at the Neil Simon Theatre on Oct. 23.
