The Broadway musical 9 to 5 leads the nominations for the 54th Drama Desk Awards, garnering nods in 15 categories.

Nominations for 2008-2009 season were announced Monday in New York by award-winning stage stars Faith Prince and Jim Dale. The awards honour Broadway and off-Broadway productions.

9 to 5 was touted for outstanding musical, outstanding director, outstanding choreography, outstanding music, outstanding lyrics, outstanding book of a musical, outstanding orchestrations, outstanding set design of a musical, outstanding costume design, outstanding lighting design in a musical, outstanding sound design. It received three nominations for outstanding actress in a musical (Stephanie J. Block, Megan Hilty, Allison Janney) and a nomination for outstanding featured actor in a musical (Marc Kudisch).

Actors Daniel Radcliffe and Jane Fonda are also nominated.

Radcliffe, the star of the Harry Potter movies, was nominated for his role in the Broadway revival of Equus. Fonda received her nomination for her role as a terminally ill musicologist in Moises Kaufman's 33 Variations.

Musical theatre icon Liza Minnelli has also been named by the Drama Desk for a special award for her lifetime contributions to Broadway theatre and for her performance in her Broadway show, Liza's at the Palace.

The Drama Desk Awards will be handed out in New York on May 17 at a ceremony hosted by stage and film star Harvey Fierstein.
