The musical adaptation of 1980s workplace comedy 9 to 5 will indeed be making the jump to Broadway, producers announced Tuesday.

Featuring a musical score by one of the film's original stars — country music veteran Dolly Parton — the curtain will rise on the show in New York in spring 2009.

"I feel like [country comedienne] Minnie Pearl! I'm just so glaaaad to be here," Parton quipped in New York on Tuesday.

"It's the most fun I've ever had as a songwriter."

After the previously announced, month-and-a-half run in Los Angeles at the Ahmanson Theatre this fall (with previews begining Sept. 3), the production will switch coasts for a springtime run in New York, with opening night slated for April 23 at the Marquis Theatre (with previews beginning March 24).

The musical is based on the popular film about a trio of female office workers conspiring against their sexist male boss.

The production will helmed by Tony Award-winner Joe Mantello, whose past director credits includes the Broadway hit Wicked.

Two Wicked alumni, actresses Stephanie J. Block and Megan Hilty, will take on the roles originated in the film by Jane Fonda and Parton, respectively.

Meanwhile, stage and screen star Allison Janney will star as the office manager portrayed in the original film by Lily Tomlin.

Patricia Resnick, who penned the film's screenplay, has also written the book (story) for the upcoming musical.

"People sometimes ask me how 9 to 5 is still relevant — in spite of the fact that when I first did it, the words 'sexual harassment' were not in the lexicon — that phrase didn't exist," Resnick said on Tuesday.

"This isn't a show just for women or about women. It's about the workplace. It's an anti-authority piece. Anyone who's had … an errant boss can relate."

Producers declined to discuss how much the production will cost.

9 to 5 will join other musicals such as Billy Elliot and Shrek the Musical already announced for the 2008-2009 Broadway season.
