Popular Marvel superhero Spider-Man is reportedly set to tackle a new neighbourhood: New York's theatre district.
According to an online report from U.S. theatre magazine Playbill, a reading for an upcoming new Spider-Man musical will take place in New York City on July 12 and 13.

The forthcoming tale about the webslinging hero will be helmed by Tony Award-winning director Julie Taymor, with music provided by Bono and The Edge of rock band U2, according to Playbill.com.
A casting notice has been issued in advance of rehearsals for the reading, with the character breakdowns and list of roles on the document providing hints about the upcoming musical.
Producers are looking for actors to portray the self-conscious but wise-cracking Peter Parker/Spider-Man, his love interest Mary Jane Watson, nemesis Norman Osborne/Green Goblin, newspaper boss J. Jonah Jameson and mysterious character Arachne.
Executives from Marvel Entertainment will share producer credits for the eventual production.
Spider-Man has been one of Marvel's most popular comic book superheroes, spawning both TV adaptations and a massively successful film series, the third instalment of which had its world premiere in Tokyo on Monday.

- Spider-Man trailer: fresh take or more of the same?by Arts Online Feb. 7, 2012 5:15 PM Spider-Man? Yes. Amazing? Maybe. The first full-length trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man -- the reboot of the comic-turned-movie trilogy -- has been released. But considering the previous movie franchise ended a mere five years ago and that we've been bombarded with stories about the troubled Broadway musical adaptation since then, this reboot does beg the question: Do we really need to revisit Spider-Man?
