Toronto-shot miniseries The Kennedys will air in the U.S. on ReelzChannel, the cable channel announced Tuesday.

Producers of the miniseries about former U.S. president John F. Kennedy and his family had been seeking a U.S. broadcaster since it was abruptly dropped by the History Channel last month.

Produced by Montreal's Muse Entertainment, it stars Greg Kinnear as Kennedy and Katie Holmes as Jackie Kennedy.

In Canada, Shaw has committed to run the eight-part series. ReelzChannel, which has 60 million subscribers, will begin showing it April 3.

The History Channel had approved the script for the series but announced in January that the finished production "is not a fit for the History brand."

A group of Kennedy supporters had lobbied against the series, worried it would tarnish the Kennedy name.

Showtime also decided against running it.
